Namio is moving forward with its initial motto 'united effort is efficient power'. The organisation is lead by board of men and women who are determined to set forth the initial objectives and goals. NAMIO is managed by a Board of five dedicated men and women, appointed by member organisations. Being convicted by the vision and goals of NAMIO, they are committed to contribute to strengthen the capacity and unity of migrant organisations which are active in the prevention, care and support services related to HIV/AIDS and other STI's in The Netherlands. NAMIO looks forward also to the improvement of health care resource use efficiency and lessening the further spread and incident rates of HIV/AIDS and other STIs, among the migrant communities and the general public in the Netherlands.
A brief profile of these men and women who are dedicated to promote and pass on the enthusiasm and vision of NAMIO is as follows:
Jenny Van Eyma (Chairlady)
Jenny van Eyma is a senior trainer consultant for nearly 20 years.
She is specialized in the field of health and education methodology and research in migrant and refugees
communities in the Netherlands . As a projectmanager she has broad experiences in international
projects on intercultural communication and the participation of migrant woman, refugees and
health programs. Developing programs on taboo issues such as SOA ,HIV and AIDS has her special
interest. She was also involved in the development and dissemination of these methods at the EU level.
For her work in the Intercultural Migrant Woman Initiatives (IMWI)project she received the
life long learning price of the ministry of education in 2008.
Asmare Yalew (Vice Chairman)
Asmare is originally from Ethiopia. He is an economist by profession (MSc from the University of Wageningen) and Environmental/Energy manager (MBA from the University of Twente). Asmare is also an experienced researcher. He has published several single- and co-authored journal articles and other publications, based on his former research post in his birth country and his various university studies.His former research colleagues describe him as a very courageous, talented and inspiring person. Asmare is someone with a sovereign attitude and thoughts. He is also innovative and enthusiast, at the same time he believes in involving people.
Eric Akum (Board member)
Eric is a Cameroonian by birth, Eric is a human rights activist and a health professional with accumulated experience in Community driven intervention (CDI). After obtaining a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Technology in Nigeria where he also worked as a research assistant on a series of WHO projects in the control of tropical infectious diseases, Eric returned to Cameroon to work as a health consultant. In the Netherlands he co-founded ASERAG and later served as the national program officer for STIs/HIV/AIDS prevention among ethnic minorities in the Netherlands. Eric combines his work at NAMIO and a Master degree program in Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences management & Policy at the University of Groningen.
Shamsa Said (Board member)
Shamsa is a former senior aide worker in the Somalian Embassy in Brussel. Shamsa could not return to her country which has been devastated by chronic war. Her dynamism and enthusiasm in development and business oriented issues makes her contributions towards the success of NAMIO so valuable.
Joachim Kikomeko (Secretary)
Joachim is originally from Uganda. Joachim is a medical clinical officer by profession. After graduating from Kampala International University in 2005, he has since been an active member in Uganda's
health system, community health where HIV/AIDS prevention is on daily agenda of all health professionals, probably for this reason Uganda is rated as number one African country in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Here in the Netherlands Joachim has been a volunteer working with SOA/AIDS Nederland where he has been a member of the editorial team since his arrival in the Netherlands . He will be finishing his Medical education here in the Netherlands at Free University Amsterdam. With this study, he will specialize in tropical medicine. With his knowledge and writing skills NAMIO remains blessed to have him on the board.
